Bunny hopping, also referred to as bhopping, or, occasionally in Quake circles, bunnying, is, in its simplest form, repeatedly jumping the moment you hit the ground. In doing so, a player retains a majority of the benefits of being airborne, namely preservation of momentum and the ability to air strafe.
